Just a couple decades ago, reality TV was barely a thing. Believe it or not, TV shows used to have writers and actors and stuff, you know… people with actual skills… until networks got wise to the fact that hiring people with no discernible talent and shooting in boring, ordinary locations was much, much cheaper.
There are still a few traditional relics out there holding down the fort with provocative drama and sharp comedy, but other entire channels have been taken over by shows covering everything from ducks to hairdressers to the Amish. If we told you D-List Celebrity Stare-Off, Real Mobile Homeowners Of Pensacola, and Help! I Hate The Rug In My Bathroom! were all titles of reality programs you could currently catch on cable, you’d probably think we were joking. But you’d have to check to be sure, wouldn’t you?
