Ex-Stripper writes "Juno"

Diablo Cody is the pen name for Brook Busey Hunt--she told David Letterman that the reason she changed her name was because Brook sounded tedious. And Cody came from a trip she took through Cody, Wyoming.

Hmmmm....doesn't Diablo mean devil?

Anyway, the writer and blogger was first known for her yearlong stint of stripping and doing peepshows in Minneapolis. The writer admits to being fascinated with stripping and all things seedy. She chronicled her escapades in a 2006 memoir, Candy Girl: A Year in The Life of an Unlikely Stripper.

Cody wrote "Juno," her first screenplay, two years ago and against all odds, it has turned golden for her.  The movie was rolled out in limited release, beginning in early December. It has picked up momentum, rave reviews and is developing an Oscar buzz.

Cody, 29, has defied high odds. Not only has her first screenplay been produced -- "Juno" reaches the screen just over two years after she wrote the first draft -- but she says it's virtually untouched from her original vision.

The chances of that happening are "one in a bazillion," said Mason Novick, who stumbled across Cody's racy blog ("The Pussy Ranch") while surfing for porn and ended up becoming her manager.

For "Juno," she said, she drew on her experiences when she was "young and sweet."

"I was able to kind of revisit that time," she said, "before the stripping, before anything in my life was vulgar."  Now living in Los Angeles, Cody said she's done five scripts or so since "Juno." And she has no plans to return to stripping.  "I can't," she said. "I'm too old."

I disagree--she could still rock a stripper job--there's still some subtle smoke'n hotness about her.
