Is Lily Allen Really Retiring From The Music Business?

Posted on 24 September 2009 by Tammy Cakes

lily-allen-retiringSeveral British newspapers are reporting that Lily Allen made an announcement on her ant-piracy blog, It’s Not Alright, (which has since been shut down) that she will be retiring from making music thanks to all the piracy that is plaguing the industry.

According to the newspapers, the ‘Smile‘ singer has not renewed her recording contract and she has “no plans to make another record.”

Lily says on her post, ” The days of me making money from recording music has been gone as far as I’m concerned, so I don’t stand to profit from legislation. Except future purchases of previously recorded material.”

The 24-year-old singer has had quite a wild, yet brief, career ride. She soared to fame with her two singles ‘Smile’ and ‘LDN’ and then unfortunately got caught in Hollywood’s pitfalls.

Lily often wrote on her blog about her struggles with her weight and overall unhappiness, and lately has joined the fight against music piracy.

“I finish up my dates in March and I’ll be ready to do something else. I’ve been on the road for four years and I’ve given my voice a real run for it’s money. I’m struggling, so I’m going to try something new.”

Next up for Lily is a London play called ‘Reasons to be Pretty,’ a play “about the really damaging cult of beauty among young girls.”

Well we wish Lily well and are sad that she will not be making any more records, for now, at least.
