Miley Cyrus gets sent to timeout

Could Disney be doing damage control on their beloved teen pop sensation?

Disney came out today and said that Miley Cyrus won't be attending her first scheduled public appearance since the infamous Vanity Fair photoshoot.

Yes, those photos… the ones that have thrown her status as a role model for young girls into question.

Miley Cyrus Behind the Scenes of Vanity Fair Shoot

The 15-year-old "Hannah Montana" star has been scheduled for weeks to appear at a red carpet event today.

But Disney confirms she is no longer expected to attend.

She was to appear at a media party in Orlando, Florida today, but no word on if she is doing something instead. But I would venture to say she’s at home feeling a bit sheepish.

Disney did not elaborate Thursday on the change in Cyrus' status for the party. Of course they wouldn’t! But it looks like Disney execs think little Miley needs a big timeout from the spotlight.

Miley Cyrus flashes the peace and the pout

The Vanity Fair photos, showing Cyrus' bare shoulders and back, were taken by renowned celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.

There has been extensive media coverage about these photos, some people not seeing the big deal and others expressing their outrage.

However, Leibovitz and the magazine defended the pictures, saying the singer, her parents and her handlers approved of the images during the shoot.

I really think this whole scandal is getting a bit out of hand. I think we all need to reevaluate the standards we put forth about young girls and the pressure they feel to look and act sexy.

Hannah Montana with attitude

I don’t know, but I’m starting to feel bad for Miley. Anyone else?

I'm not so sure I feel sorry for Miley, but I can understand what u mean at the same time--a lot of pressure in the world for sex appeal...

Vanessa Hudgens did apologize like a million times though. I forgve her though, for miley, i really don't see anything wrong except for the picture with her dad. That was utterly disturbing.

I'm Not Feeling Bad 4 Miley. It Was Her Choice To Take Them. She Could Of Said No But She Didn't. She Is Turning Just Like Every Other Celebrity. But About The Sex Appeal... Why Does She Need It? To Get More Kids To Watch Hannah Montana?? I Don't Think So. Shes Only 15 And She Needs To Get Back To How She Was Before.

Okay, those pictures are NOT really a big deal. If it was another star that was not with "We-are-G-rated-to-the-extreme" disney then it would be not be such a big deal. Like what about that movie where 9 yr old dakota fanning had that rape scene? That wasn't as big of a deal as this photo has created. Why? because she was not with "We-are-holier-than-thou" disney. GET OVER IT.
Girls her age...please. exposing a little shoulder is the least of what they are doing. So cry me a river, build a bridge and get over it.

I wouldn't blame it on disney if she changes her mind about going to one of their functions.

I really like Miley Cyrus, but I think she's making too many mistakes. On the bright side, she's not going as far as Vanessa Hudgens, and she doesn't sound as squeaky or look as hideous.

i love miley and hannah and now that she took those pics. everyone makes fun off me. it makes me mad and sad i just dont understand why she had to take them. i still think she is awesome but some of the things she does are not. i also think just because someone makes a bad choice it doesnt make them a bad person. so i really hope that miley doesnt turn into a jamie lynn spears
