NASA says the world WON'T end in 2012 - What do THEY know?!

Posted on October 18, 2009 - 4:17pm by Austin Anderson Stop working.  Not that you are if you're reading here at Hollywire...But just stop what you're doing.  Have you heard?  We're all dead.  Hasta la vista!  Bye bye!  The world is over.  The Mayans, you know, the native people who have been extinct for centuries we learned about for maybe a week in elementary school?  Yeah, they saw it coming.  We know this because they stopped chiseling a calendar into a wall at an exact date.  The Mayans didn't have a mall to go to and pick up the next year's [mayan word for] calendar, so that means one thing, and one thing only.   CHAOS!!!  Oh, the humanity!  Max out your credit cards!  Eat cake and only cake!  Punch people you don't like!  [The views and opinions expressed in this rant are those of the ranter and not those of Hollywire or other people who won't approve of you punching people]

So guess what?  Hollywood got a hold of the idea.  They've attached director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) and what looks like a pretty good cast to star in a film, based around the end of the world.  Sounds great.  They launched a few websites telling people that the end of the world is at hand, and that there is real danger.  And then members of NASA, like senior scientist, Dr. David Morrison, started to get troublesome letters from the public.  Dr. Morrison stated that he had received over 1,000 letters from the public.  People were really worried that their lives were at risk!  Teens wrote in saying that "They would rather commit suicide than witness the end of the world".  Wow.  Sony's website was well done.  But come on.  Some at NASA seem to think that the website is ethically wrong.  I think it's funny.  Until I start getting punched in the face by people eating cake...
