About a year ago, Red Bull, the energy drink that is said to “give you wings” came out with a new energy drink, Red Bull Cola that was said to be 100% natural- of what we wonder? The new energy drink, that was not so tasty if I recall, is being taken off the shelves in six states in Germany because it contains traces cocaine, but a too small of amount that it doesn’t pose a risk health. Red Bull said their drink is “harmless and marketable in both the U.S. and Europe.”
According to local reports, the cocaine comes from a process of de-cocainized extract of coca leaf in the drink, which despite its name, doesn’t actually take all the cocaine out. The process also means that Red Bull has to be e classified as a narcotic and needs a special license for sale.
“The [Health Institute in the state of North Rhine Westphalia] examined Red Bull Cola in an elaborate chemical process and found traces of cocaine,” Bernhard Kuehnle, head of the food safety department at Germany’s federal ministry for consumer protection, told the German press on Sunday. According to this analysis, the 0.13 micrograms of cocaine per can of the drink does not pose a serious health threat — you’d have to drink 12,000 L of Red Bull Cola for negative effects to be felt — but it was enough to cause concern.
What is you’re take of the matter? I think it is funny. Why is Germany so up tight? And who really will miss Red Bull Cola anyways?
xXxTerra won’t…
