Throw Your Own Inauguration Party
Celebrate this historic inauguration by throwing your own themed party! Here are some suggestions on how to have the best party on the block. Remember, the inauguration is on Jan 20th at 11:30am EST and the parade at 2:30 EST. For those of us on the west coast, might I suggest that you TiVO or DVR it and play it back later at night during your party.Start off by having all the T.V.s in your house tuned to the inauguration, or played on a loop continuously through the party. You can print out pictures of Obama from the internet and hang them around your house. Have each guest wear a button with the slogan 'Yes We Can' when they come in the door. You can print out the design and make your own buttons with a kit from your local craft store.
Decorate your table using card board boxes as risers and place red, white, and blue table cloth over the whole thing and serve Obama's favorite snacks. Reports from the campaign trail said that he liked chips and salsa; Planters Trail Mix: Nuts, Seeds and RaisinsThe inauguration lunch being served to Obama and guest include a seafood stew with lobster, scallops, shrimp and cod as the first course. You could do a clam chowder with seared scallops and skewers of shrimp on the side as a scaled down version. The main course served for Obama is a brace of duck and pheasant served with sour cherry chutney and molasses sweet potatoes. A whole roasted chicken is a good substitute if you didn't want to go all the way with duck and pheasant. Plus they have the pre-cooked whole chickens at the super market, no fuss, no muss. And you could certainly do mashed potatoes instead of the sweet potatoes as a substitute. For desert, the party guests will be having an apple cinnamon sponge cake with sweet cream glace. This is also something you can buy pre-made at most super markets. A big time saver for any party, that way you can really focus on decorating before the guests arrive and have the time to actually entertain your guests when they are there.

Another option is doing a finger food party with some of Obama's favorite foods, like BBQ chicken wings and ribs with celery and carrot sticks. Have bowls of chili on the table with shredded cheese and chopped onions on the side.
Don't forget the games! You can find Obama facts on the internet and make a little pop quiz sheets and play a game with your guests and see who got the most right. Other games to play are 'Guess the gown designer'. Have a poster board with the different designers that vied for the coveted gown that Michelle will wear and have people place their names by the one that they think will be the winner. Be sure to have prizes for the winners like themed a gift basket.

End off the night with desserts like Michelle Obama's Shortbread Cookies or her Apple Cobbler
