An Internet Joke That May Make It Into The Mainstream Music World.

Yes, some guy dancing in front of his webcam to a song he loved was hilarious to the better part of humanity, garnering him worldwide fame as "that Numa Numa dude who had a webcam and way too much time on his hands." Indeed, the Numa Numa joke became so omnipresent that it ended up being used by T.I. and Rihanna for their song, Live Your Life.

Seriously, who could've seen that coming? Or the sudden popularity of Rick Astley and Rickrolling? Rickrolling became so famous on the Inter-webs that pretty much everybody knew what it was. Not only that, but that popularity resulted in the ENTIRE UNITED STATES getting Rickrolled at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2008.

Yeah. He pranked about 300 million people in those three minutes. As far as pranks go, you can't top that. One thing that is becoming clearer is that the mainstream music world is becoming increasingly tied to the tastes of the internet. It makes one wonder, "What Internet phenomenon could possibly be next in line?" I humbly submit my speculative choice as to what Internet joke will be somehow used by a mainstream artist either this year or the next: The Remix of Swedish pop group Caramell's song, Caramelldansen.

On paper, it's got the makings of being the next "Numa Numa," or "Rickroll," in that it will break into the real world. It has the necessary electro-dance beat, and it is incredibly ridiculous. On the internet, it has already spawned numerous copy videos (this video itself was inspired by a video a Youtube user made of some cartoon character doing a bunny dance).

[/caption]How likely is it that this will be sampled by T.I. or T. Pain or some other rapper whose stage name has a "T" in it? Well, not enough that we actually need to be on the lookout for it. It certainly has enough reposts on Youtube in the "Related Videos" section and has likely garnered millions of views by people who have stumbled upon it, or were told to watch it on pain of death, but there is one big problem. It's too fast. and the voices are too high. And the video is all about cuteness, whereas "Numa Numa" was hilarious, and "Rickrolling" just dug its claws into countless videos.

[/caption]So while I doubt that we'll someday see Rihanna doing a freakish bunny dance anytime soon, there's still the possibility that some music producer out there is watching Caramelldansen and thinking, "You know, this would be awesome if T. Pain were singing the lyrics!"
