Best Music Videos of Winter

Hello, and welcome!  A new year brings new music videos; we're happy to present you with the moody, groovy tunes that Winter brought about.  Here's our list of the awesome sounds that you can listen to and watch as winter melts into spring.

The Killers

Spaceman

This sweet song is ridiculous and completely catchy, and comes with a video to match. From the very beginning, the absurd tone of the video is set with a man walking backwards in a woman's dress with a mask covering the back of his head, followed by lead singer Brandon Flowers appearing in probably one of the craziest red unitards ever made, and probably only able to be pulled off because he is in such an established bands.  And sure, you may not fully understand the lyrics or what's going on in the video, but who cares?  It's a fun to hear and watch, and that's all that matters.

Franz Ferdinand

Wine in the Afternoon

These Scottish lads recently released the LP "Tonight" which has some sensational songs on it, such as "No You Girls" and the softer rendition "Katherine Kiss Me".  Their newest single, "Ulysses" is cynical and groovitational, and by all means you should see the music video below, but the real winner I found while looking up their videos.  "Wine in the Afternoon" is absolutely cute and kooky, and will inspire you to new heights of handiwork as you sip your afternoon red or white.

And of course, here's the new single from Franz Ferdinand, just to keep you well-rounded.

The Deadly Syndrome

Emily Paints

These indie-pop men from Los Angeles are the most fun things to hit your car stereo since Mika.  You might recognize lead singer Christopher Richard as "Claus" from the Palm Centro Christmas ads, but it turns out he is more than a modern Santa impersonator--he is quite the singer.  This energetic band will make you want to dance along wildly wherever you are--in your room, in your car, or in a crowd.  If you asked Santa for some awesome new music, then write him a "thank you" note for presenting you with the Deadly Syndrome.

Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareilles

Winter Song

Sara Bareilles said "No" to forced heartfelt words in "Love Song", and Ingrid Michaelson told audiences to "Keep Breathing" on Grey's Anatomy. Now, the two soulful songstresses come together in this beautiful duet in an ode to winter.  The music video shows an animated version of the women as they adventure on a floating leaf and sled through the wild landscape.  It's a slow and sad song that fits the contemplative nature of winter, but still giving hope for spring.

The Black Ghosts

Full Moon

Did you see Twilight?  If not, you're the only one.  If you did, you might recognize this song from the beginning as Bella moves from Arizona to Forks.  But besides appearing in a devilishly fantastic movie, the song is also amazing on it's own.  The music video is more "artsy", but the views of cityscapes and subways gives you a feeling of traveling around as you watch.   The Black Ghosts are a "Postal Service" style band; they met through the internet and built up a collection of material online before actually meeting each other in person.  "Full Moon" is tangible proof of the cool accomplishments you can come up with through the computer.

Chester French

She Loves Everybody

[jwplayer|config=Hollywire|width=425|height=344|file=http://www.youtube.com/v/oE5Xr50mVRE|image=http://i4.ytimg.com/vi/oE5Xr50mVRE/hqdefault.jpg]

Chester French is named for the sculpture who designed the Lincoln memorial, while the band themselves are made of Harvard Students turned rock stars.  Their sound is controlled and old school style, while still keeping a unique and funky edge.  The music video plays on the idea of a girl who "loves everybody" by having a girl who beats up the boys of the band.  A little trivia for those who know of the British socialite Peaches Geldoff; the slightly less popular UK version of Paris Hilton was briefly married to Max Drummey, one of the Chester French band members.  Band-scandalous-ness!

Beyonce

Halo

I hope it's not just me, but I love seeing the softer side of Beyonce.  She looks so gorgeous in her simplicity and strength; just like the song "Halo".  The music video is really romantic in a way that is not overbearing; it is sweet and relatable.  Everything about it seems so natural as Sasha Fierce shows a gentle side to her womanly wiles.

Jason Mraz featuring Colbie Caillat

Lucky

[jwplayer|config=Hollywire|width=425|height=344|file=http://www.youtube.com/v/9iraoHE6JlY|image=http://i4.ytimg.com/vi/9iraoHE6JlY/hqdefault.jpg]

"Bubbly" singer Colbie Caillat joins with "I'm Yours" singer Jason Mraz to create the second duet to land on our list.  "Lucky" shows two gorgeous locations--a European city for Jason and a seaside for Colbie, giving two prime locations for romance.  The song is sweet and simple, singing about the luck of loving someone you really care for both as friend and as a love-interest.  And we have to agree that anyone in a relationship with one of these crooners would definitely be lucky.

The Raconteurs

Old Enough

[jwplayer|config=Hollywire|width=425|height=344|file=http://www.youtube.com/v/OZzUkAvalWo|image=http://i4.ytimg.com/vi/OZzUkAvalWo/hqdefault.jpg]

Jack White's spin-off band infiltrated the airwaves with the contagious tunes of "Steady as She Goes", but the band's sound has definitely progressed from the steady beats of the maiden single.  "Old Enough" is a rock song at heart, but there is more than a hint of country influence in this song, with violins that lend just the right effect.  The music video is great because it doesn't focus on just on a lead frontman (as might be easy to do with a veteran like J.W. on vocals), but rotates with the singers.  The group performs in a circle, which really gives the band a community feeling, which doesn't seem to happen frequently in the world of rock and roll.

Pussycat Dolls

Jai Ho (You Are My Destiny)

If you saw Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire, you will recognize the Hindi chant "Jai Ho".  This is a cover the original song which won the "Best Original Song" in the Academy Awards.  The song gets a preppy Pussycat remix, complete with sexy outfits and Americanized style.  While it's not quite as heart-warming as the original, it is still a vibrant rendition that will give a touch of Indian flavor to dance clubs across the country.

Here you have it!  Memories of winter don't seem quite so chilly when these music videos from the time play.  Enjoy them, and be on the look out for the best videos of spring!
