Josh Howard Disses The Star Spangled Banner

Posted on 18 September 2008 by Loretta

During Allen Iverson’s flag football charity game, Josh Howard, the forward for the Dallas Mavericks, disrespected “The Star Spangled Banner.”  Howard was caught on tape saying, “I don’t celebrate this sh**.  I’m black God damn it.”  He then ended his rant with, “Barack Obama ‘08.  Obama and all that sh**.”  Check out the youtube clip below.

Mark Cuban, owner of the Mavericks, told the Dallas Morning News that the Howard incident has been dealt with and stated,

That said, we will be going through some advanced communication-skill sessions together this training camp.  I have explained to him that cellphone cameras are not your friend and that what you think you said on camera is never what people will hear when it shows up on YouTube or TV.”

That is so true.  Cellphone cameras are not a celebrities friend, but the media love them!  However, I don’t see how what Howard said can be taken any other way than disrespectful to our National Anthem.  What do you think?

Maybe he should at least respect the country that’s making him a millionaire … athletes get paid too much in my opinion.

I totally agree with you, he can take all of our American money but not respect our national anthem there is something wrong with that. YES!!!Athletes get paid way to much.

Ah, I’m so proud to be an American. What a great country this is where a person can burn a flag in front of the White House, say “George Bush hates Black People” or diss the national anthem and not be hung! Francis S. Key and Josh Howard’s forefathers would be proud! God Bless America!!

I have terrible news! Athletes/movie stars/authors etc are NOT overpaid! Sure, they don’t work as physically hard as laborers, but they are paid based on the amount of money that they personally generate. If Kobe Bryant was playing in the NBA for $25 an hour, where would all of those millions that he generates go? A more legitimate complaint is that Americans spend too much time watching sports!
